Global University Pathways: Where Can a King’s Education Take You?

Discover how A Levels, academic excellence and wider personal development open pathways to leading universities around the world and explore the journeys of five recent King’s Wimbledon graduates.

Global Pathways, Individual Journeys

At King’s HCMC , preparation for university will bring together academic excellence, personal development and individualised guidance, helping pupils explore opportunities that reflect their strengths, interests and future aspirations.

As we explored in our previous article, A Levels at King’s: Academic Excellence, Global Opportunities and Life Beyond School, A Levels are internationally recognised qualifications that provide a strong academic foundation for entry to universities in the United Kingdom, United States, Canada, Australia, Europe and Asia, as well as other destinations around the world.

In the UK, these opportunities include universities within the prestigious Russell Group, a collective of 24 research-intensive universities, including the University of Cambridge, University of Oxford, Imperial College London, University College London (UCL), King's College London, the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), Durham University and the University of Warwick.

In the United States, A Levels are recognised within the admissions processes of leading institutions including the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Stanford University and New York University (NYU), as well as universities within the Ivy League, such as Harvard University, Yale University, Princeton University and Columbia University.

In Australia, A Levels are widely recognised for university admission, including at leading institutions such as the University of Melbourne, the University of Sydney, Monash University and the Australian National University (ANU). Similarly, universities in Canada, including the University of Toronto, the University of British Columbia (UBC) and McGill University, recognise A Levels as part of their undergraduate admissions requirements, offering pupils further opportunities to pursue their ambitions internationally.

Together, these pathways demonstrate the international recognition of A Levels and the flexibility they offer pupils when considering their future university destinations.

Beyond Academic Excellence: Preparing for the World Beyond School

However, strong academic qualifications are only one part of preparing for university. While admissions requirements differ across countries and institutions, intellectual curiosity, independence, service, initiative, leadership and meaningful engagement beyond the classroom also play an important role, particularly in holistic admissions processes.

This is where the wider King’s education makes a difference. Shaped by the ethos of Mind, Spirit and Heart, a King’s education combines academic excellence and intellectual curiosity with pastoral care, wellbeing, personal enrichment and opportunities to pursue individual passions. Through sport, music, drama, leadership, service and wider experiences beyond the classroom, pupils are encouraged to discover their interests, develop their talents and grow as individuals.

This approach also reflects the King’s philosophy of The World Beyond School and Life at 25, encouraging pupils to look beyond examination results and university destinations to consider the knowledge, skills, character and confidence they will need for the future. Through World Beyond lessons, pupils explore their aspirations, prepare for future choices and develop the independence to thrive at university and throughout their lives.

At King’s College Wimbledon Ho Chi Minh City, this commitment to academic excellence and wider personal development is at the heart of our educational approach. Drawing on the heritage and expertise of King’s College School, Wimbledon, we aim to prepare pupils for leading universities around the world while nurturing their individual interests, talents and ambitions.

The journeys of recent King’s Wimbledon graduates offer an inspiring glimpse of how this philosophy comes to life.

From King’s Wimbledon to Universities Around the World

Meet five recent King’s Wimbledon graduates and discover where their A Levels, individual interests and wider achievements are taking them next.

The experiences of recent pupils at King’s College School, Wimbledon, illustrate what this combination of academic depth and wider personal development can look like in practice.

Their destinations are impressive, but their stories also demonstrate something broader about a King’s education. Academic achievement sits alongside leadership, sport, music, service and contribution to school life.

We are delighted to introduce five A Level pupils from the Class of 2026 progressing to universities in both the UK and United States, including the University of Cambridge, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), New York University (NYU) and the University of Warwick.

Here, we share their stories, beginning with Sebastian, whose journey from King’s Wimbledon will take him across the Atlantic to one of the world’s leading universities in the USA.

Sebastian

Sebastian left King's Wimbledon with an extraordinary academic record, having achieved stellar A Level results in Economics, Further Mathematics, Mathematics and Physics, and secured a place at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), one of the world's leading universities. Beyond the classroom, Sebastian excelled as one of the school's top rowers, representing the Great Britain Under-19 (GB U19) National Team at the Coupe de la Jeunesse and serving as vice-captain of the boathouse in his final year. As a member of the 1st VIII, he helped the crew secure medals at major national and international competitions, including the Head of the Charles Regatta and the National Schools' Regatta. He also pursued his passion for music, achieving Grade 8 piano. After a gap year, Sebastian will embark on an exciting new chapter in the United States.

Petra

Petra was this year's Freake Cup winner, a fitting recognition of her exceptional leadership, character and contribution to King's. Vice-captain of school and a driving force behind sustainability initiatives with the school's environmental group Blue Marble, Petra combined academic excellence with a deep commitment to improving the world around her. An outstanding athlete, she represented England at both Under-18 and Under-21 level in hockey, while simultaneously maintaining an outstanding academic performance in A Levels Chemistry, Further Mathematics, Mathematics and Physics. Petra left King's Wimbledon as a remarkable scholar, leader and role model, and is now studying Natural Sciences at Jesus College, Cambridge.

Ren

Ren left King's Wimbledon as one of the most accomplished and versatile performers of her year group. Winner of the Drama Award for individual performance, she made a memorable impact on the stage through productions including Come From Away and Coram Boy, while also directing and starring in People, Places and Things for the House Plays Festival. Her creative talents extended into music, helping Maclear secure victory in the House Battle of the Bands for two consecutive years and performing at a range of school events. Having excelled in Drama & Theatre, English and Geography at A level, Ren is now undertaking a Creative Arts and Humanities course while continuing her training with the Guildhall School of Music & Drama. She will take up her place on the New York University (NYU) Tisch Acting Course in September 2027.

Adam

Adam was a thoughtful and influential presence at King's. As vice-captain of school, editor of King's Geographic magazine, an engaged member of the Interfaith Council invested in the group’s development and growth, and a long-serving School Council representative, he contributed outstandingly to community life. A member of both the 1st XV and 2nd XV, and an accomplished student of Economics, English, Geography and Mathematics, Adam consistently looked beyond his own achievements to improve the world around him. He is now studying PPE at the University of Warwick.

Leo

Leo combined academic success with outstanding achievement on the rugby field. A member of the England U18 squad, he scored his first international try against France while continuing his development within the Harlequins pathway. At King's, Leo was a valued member of the 1st XV and served as a cadet sergeant in the CCF, demonstrating dedication both on and off the field. Having pursued excellence in Economics, Geography and History, Leo planned to combine further study while continuing his involvement with Harlequins.

Preparing for Their Own Futures at King’s HCMC

Each of these journeys is different, reflecting the individual interests, ambitions and achievements of the pupils themselves. Together, they demonstrate how academic excellence and opportunities beyond the classroom can complement one another, helping young people develop the knowledge, skills and character to pursue their chosen paths.

At King’s College Wimbledon Ho Chi Minh City, we will draw on this educational philosophy as we develop our own Sixth Form and university pathways programme. Through A Level study, our Personal Enrichment Programme and individualised university and careers guidance, our ambition is to prepare pupils to pursue opportunities at leading universities around the world while developing the confidence and independence to thrive in the world beyond school.

Every pupil’s journey will be different, but our ambition remains the same. Through our ethos of Mind, Spirit and Heart, we seek to develop the knowledge, character and confidence that will enable young people to pursue their individual ambitions, make a positive contribution to the world around them and lead fulfilling, purposeful lives. It is this commitment to preparing pupils for university and life at 25 and beyond that lies at the heart of a King’s education.
